Jeffrey Snover gave a talk on the origins of Powershell. There was an attitude that terminal is just not the way of Windows. The way of Windows, is windows (duh!)

So this attitude would say that Windows does have a basic editor - which is Notepad - and it’s supported over Windows SSH - which is RDP.

And as he pointed out this does not scale, leads to all your systems being setup differently, etc so I’m glad the attitude has changed but seems a little of it persists.

I'll have to watch that. I did read the "PowerShell in Action" book a couple of years ago, and IIRC the intro also started by saying how making Windows administration possible from the CLI was the goal of PowerShell, but it was a big struggle.
